20 Casablanca!

Casablanca is mostly famous to Americans because of the classic movie of the same name. Although many Moroccans would disagree, there are not a ton of compelling reasons to visit. Despite this, it’s been on my must do list because one of my “bucket list “ items is on it. I’ve always wanted to see the Hassan II mosque. It is the 3rd largest mosque in the world, with the tallest minaret. More importantly, it allows non-Muslims in at certain times for tours. Like most non-Muslims, we’ve never been in a mosque. The kids opted out and decided to goof off on the rocks at the waterfront where the mosque is built. Ridiculous. Annie and Chris took the tour.

The tour was absolutely outstanding. We learned a ton and the interior of the mosque is just beautiful. The coolest part was the ablution rooms underneath. When you learn about the processes involved in the 5 times a day prayers, you can’t help but be impressed with the faithful. We probably took 100 pictures during the hour door. It is a “modern mosque” with all kinds of cool features. The minaret has a green laser at night that points towards Mecca, the entire roof slides open to let in natural light and air, there are water channels in the floor that can be automatically filled, etc...very cool to see and learn about. Highly recommend if you’re ever in Casablanca!

We also enjoyed an Irish Pub while we were here! Great place. Live music, soccer on TV, beer, packed with people.  We enjoyed embarrassing the kids with our loud participation when the musicians were covering American hits!

Next we head back to Marrakech to say goodbye to Morocco...
